"... Every comfort in Fairview, our host has thought of everything - and the views!! ..."
"... We've had an excellent stay and are sad to leave ..."
"... we all thought that it was the best self-catering cottage we had stayed at anywhere!  The location was excellent, and it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into making our stay as relaxing and trouble-free as possible."

A place to enjoy good food

Picture
There are many good restaurants within easy reach of Fairview by car if you want to take a holiday from cooking when you are staying here.

However Shetland has a wonderful range of local produce on offer including locally made butter, cheese, Shetland lamb and superb sea food. Have a look at the Links page for some suggestions. With two electric ovens and a gas hob including a wok burner, the large Rangemaster kitchen range will give you ample scope to produce delicious meals if you enjoy cooking. At Fairview you will find a welcome pack of food essentials to get you going and we ensure that, on arrival, there are supplies of tea and coffee as well as food wrap, foil, oils, condiments and a range of herbs and spices for your cooking. We also provide seal-able plastic containers for your picnic foods.

One particular Shetland tradition that provides a great way to meet the community is 'Sunday Teas'. These take place on Sunday afternoons during the summer at various community halls around the islands and are advertised in the Shetland Times each week as well as on notice boards in public places and by the roadside. The baking is fresh and the range of treats is staggering. Well worth looking out for. You'll frequently find stalls with locally made food and craft goods for sale and if you enjoyed the baking you can usually buy some to take home. Proceeds generally go to charity.
